Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear.
This is my friend Emiliza’s favorite favorite phrase by the way
Oh dear. Oh dear. Oh dear.
SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED IN THE PAST FEW DAYS. I HAVE SO MUCH TO TELL YOU.
I don’t even know where to start. I’m going to go a little backwards I think…because I’m feeling a little backwards myself right now. All I have to say is that I’m glad we have somewhere to sleep tonight.
It was an interesting journey to get to this hostel. Emiliza, Clare, and I trekked from Tim’s and Diane’s place in the POURING RAIN to get here. I had made a reservation for this place but we missed the check-in time and our reservation got canceled I felt bad because I was majorly lagging after our awesome late lunch (more about that later!)
On the way to this hostel, Emiliza almost got jacked. These very insistent young French girls and an insistent young boy grabbed our bags and “helped” drag them to the top of the stairs for us. We were grateful but at the same time suspicious (no offense). I figured if the girl ran off with my bag, this meant I could go on a shopping spree in Paris so I was less fazed.
However, I’m not sure if I imagined it or not but I could have sworn one of the girls had her hand super close to my bag. I instinctively pulled it closer to me. Luckily, I clipped my bag in such a way that in order to open it, you have to struggle to unclip it. I do this every time I have to pay – a small inconvenience for peace of mind.
Anyway, Emiliza turned toward me with a concerned look on her face – her freaking purse was unzipped and her notebook had fallen out!! Clearly, someone had unzipped it because her purse did not open easily and was closed last time she checked. Luckily, everything was there but it was quite a scare. We were definitely targeted because of all the luggage we were carrying. Just glad everything is in order and that they still helped me carry my bag
Back to our hostel situation, hopefully we get to stay in the same room/hostel for the next two nights because we’ve taken a liking to the place. This is of course AFTER we lugged our luggage up 4 flights of stairs. Really we’re just lazy asses and don’t wanna relocate a.k.a drag our shit to a new room
To reward ourselves for our hard work… we went hunting for some crepes and coffee – ended up at Crepes De Josselin.
I ordered a “double pancake with bananas flambéed with rum (at the table)“. Sounds good, right?
You’re half right. I think I got tipsy from the sheer alcohol content of it all the crepe was not flambéed nearly enough. The parts that were done tasted delicious as the creamy banana was caramelized with tasty rum. I should have asked for a lighter and flambéed the rest of that shit myself.
The first bite of my crepe was all that yummy caramelized banana filling nestled in a warm crepe blanket. Then I took a bite of Clare’s “double pancake with stewed apples flambéed with apple brandy”. I gagged. Hardcore. Except I had shoved a rather large portion of it in my mouth so it was more of a choke (yes, I know…;)).
At any rate, I was choking, making really weird faces (which reminds me, a baby & I had a weird face making contest and I won!), and waving my hands in front of my face, you know, to dissipate the taste The waiter noticed and looked super concerned so I kept trying to reassure him through a mouthful of YECH (in my opinion) that it was ok and the crepe was just hot. Haha. Poor guy, he was super nice.
At least Emiliza clearly loved her vegetarian crepe (don’t remember what was in it, just remember she subbed our egg for some eggplant! ) – that shit was GONE in 2 seconds
By the way, please excuse my rambling! I haven’t posted in so long and my Facebook is still locked because they think I’m a hacker so I’m going through major withdrawals!! Haha.
Anyway, it’s been nice to have a break from Facebook and Internet in general. I’m not going to lie, the urge is still within me and I actively miss it. For me, when I post on Fb or anything like that, I’m doing it for me. I like to know where I’ve been, what I was doing, and what I was eating! Haha. So it’s been hard but I’ve been trying to document where I’ve been on my culinary adventures besides, these breaks from the Internet allow me to catch up with Emiliza in person! So much better than Skype
especially when we happen to stumble upon the topic of “Soulja Boy,” right Emiliza? “Yoo” know what I’m talking about!!
hahaha.
And with that, it’s time to sign off again! I have some awesomely detailed notes all ready to go for a future post so I can update you on the last few days that I missed alas, I am le tired and it’s time for bed! Merci! Au revoir!!
